The Bible between Literary Traditions: John C. H. Wu’s Chinese Translation of the Psalms

In the history of Chinese Bible translation, Psalms have been a privileged site for encounter between biblical thinking, poetics, and classical literature. This was initiated by translators Delegates’ Version, followed John Chalmers, outstandingly represented in particular C. H. Wu吳經熊. his version Psalms, underpinned cultural stance “beyond East West”, Wu borrows numerous idioms popular verses transposes traditions from Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism. Specifically, Wu’s rendition inaugurates an intertextual dialogue Shijing, involving disciplines both comparative literature scripture at same time.
